CDROM on Toshiba Laptop
Help! My Cdrom drive is dead on my Toshiba Laptop. Is there another way to install Backtrack 2 to my harddrive?
- Try installing backtrack to a USB drive and install to HDD from there.
my login won't work
I have loaded it for the first time and it keeps telling me the root/toor combination are login incorrect - can you help please.

root toor not working for me too
David
My problem was related to an incomplete iso file. A new cd - burned from another downloaded iso - confirmed with the MD5 - solved the login problem.
Werner
I have the same problem, I checked the iso with md5 and it was fine, any other reasons it might not be workin?

If you use the USB-stick version, it's easy to change the root password entry in /etc/shadow with the hash of a known password. For CD: You have to edit the ISO. The easiest way is: mout the ISO - change - burn. ( mount - o loop /home/downloads/BT3.iso /mnt/BT3cd )

Also can't i have dual boot mode (win Xp & BT 2.0 )?

- you can use GRUB or LILO as boot manager. I prefer GRUB. /boot/grub/menu.lst like this:
default 1 timeout 5
title Windows XP root (hd0,0) makeactive chainloader +1
title BackTrack2 root (hd0,1) kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/hda2 ro

HP Pavilion dv6358SE can't boot
When i try to boot Bactrack 2.0, right after i press enter on boot, the monitor goes blank. I can reboot using Ctrl+Alt+Del but other than that nothing works.
Comment about "multiple characters with one key press"
The Wiki says "Under certain hardware conditions pressing a single key will produce several keystrokes, this seems to be most prevalent when running BT3 as a virtual machine." Does it happen at all when running natively on the hardware? I've only ever seen this behavior in a virtual machine. I've seen this behavior when running Windows guests on a Windows host, so it has nothing to do with Backtrack or Linux; based on the hack recommended as a fix (xset r off), it seems Vmware is sometimes delaying the keyup event.

Virtual Box crashes during fast track attack
Currently running Virtual Box through Ubuntu 64 bit Hardy Heron to run BackTrack 3.0 Beta. BT is installed to the hard drive and has completed install all as well as update all.
After choosing external hacking from the fast track main menu, and then choosing autopwn metasploit automated, I enter my IP address 24.245.39.101.
It then fires up NMAP, which almost instantly causes Virtual Box to abort. This happens regardless of what IP I enter for the autopwn attempt.
kded crashes
don't know if this would be considered a bug but every time i try to start X, it goes through the motions and crashes, startx shutting down. Im using usb image, have reformatted and recopied the files and copied new mbr with no luck. im using a hp pavilion dv7. i am booting in vesa mode
